Dear Schools

We are always happy to talk through our offer and how we can help you in more detail. Every school and set of circumstances is unique.

This page contains some information around our services, the Forest School ethos and what to expect.

Qualified Instructors

All instructors are Level 3 Forest School Leader qualified. Some also have teaching experience and qualifications.

We come with insurance and there is always a First Aider on site (16-hour Outdoor First Aid course).

Our offer for Schools

After-School Forest School Sessions

  • Regular, one-hour sessions delivered on your school grounds or at a local natural site.

  • Led by a qualified Forest School practitioner, these sessions provide hands-on, child-led learning experiences that foster confidence, teamwork, and a connection with nature.

  • Activities include den building, nature crafts, games, tool use (age-appropriate), and seasonal exploration, all underpinned by robust safety and safeguarding practices

Forest School Set-Up Support & Consultancy

  • Expert guidance to help your school establish its own Forest School provision. Some schools do this with raised beds set on top of concrete… you don’t need huge gardens to make a start.

  • Includes site assessment, risk management, help with policies and procedures, and advice on equipment and resources.

  • Support with staff training pathways and ongoing mentoring to ensure your provision meets the six core principles of quality Forest School practice

A learner-centred pedagogical approach

“Learners are all: equal, unique and valuable; competent to explore & discover; entitled to experience appropriate risk and challenge; entitled to choose, and to initiate and drive their own learning and development; entitled to experience regular success; entitled to develop positive relationships with themselves and other people; [and] entitled to develop a strong, positive relationship with their natural world.”
— Forest School Association

The 6 Principles of Forest School

These are defined by the Forest School Association to help ensure that Forest School is a unique, high-quality approach to outdoor learning, focused on long-term engagement, connection with nature, holistic growth, and safety under skilled leadership

  1. Long-Term, Regular Sessions

  2. Natural Environment

  3. Holistic Development

  4. Supported Risk-Taking

  5. Qualified Practitioners

  6. Learner-Centred Community

“Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.”
